The Senior Technical Service Specialist role is ideal for experienced scientific professionals with a strong microbiology or biology foundation, formulation and chemistry fundamentals, and a passion for solving customer problems across household, disinfection, and personal care applications. In this position, you will serve as a key technical resource for both customers and internal teams—ensuring the safe, effective, and compliant use of the company’s ingredients while supporting product performance, hygiene, and regulatory expectations.
Responsibilities
Customer Support & Field Engagement
· Visit customers to deliver presentations, technical discussions, and troubleshooting support (in person, Teams, and calls)
· Diagnose and solve customer problems related to formulation, hygiene, performance, and application challenges
· Conduct plant hygiene evaluations and site assessments as needed
· Provide product recommendations and application guidance across household, disinfection, and personal care categories
· Support sales personnel with technical service requests, customer documentation, and training
Technical Leadership & Formulation Support
· Apply formulation basics and troubleshooting skills using typical household, disinfection, and PC ingredients (surfactants, solvents, chelants, oxidizers, quats, preservatives, etc.)
· Design, execute, and support technical projects and investigations under the direction of the Technical Manager
· Coordinate closely with chemistry, formulation, and microbiology labs to translate customer needs into actionable testing plans
· Design experiments, develop protocols, and ensure accurate GLP‑compliant documentation
· Prepare technical reports, literature, and internal/external communications
Regulatory, Efficacy & Compliance
· Support EPA and FIFRA efficacy-related activities in partnership with regulatory teams
· Understand regulatory implications of formulation changes and ingredient selection
· Ensure technical recommendations align with safety, compliance, and quality management system (QMS) requirements
Industry Engagement & Training
· Represent the company within relevant industry organizations (HCPA, PCPC, SCC, etc.)
· Deliver technical training to customers, sales teams, and new internal staff
· Stay current with competitor products, market trends, and emerging technologies
· Promote a positive team environment and uphold high standards of professionalism
Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field
· 5–10+ years of experience in household, disinfection, personal care, or related consumer product categories
· Strong understanding of formulation basics and typical ingredient systems; ability to troubleshoot performance and stability issues
Solid chemistry fundamentals and comfort working with disinfectant chemistries (quats, oxidizers, acids, solvents, etc.)
Experience coordinating with microbiology, formulation, and chemistry labs
Familiarity with EPA/FIFRA efficacy expectations, GLP documentation, and regulatory collaboration
Natural comfort interacting with customers, delivering presentations, and conducting plant hygiene assessments
Ability to travel for customer visits, surveys, and training sessions
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build rapport and translate technical concepts clearly
Supplier‑side experience strongly preferred
