Logistics Manager

 The Logistics Manager is responsible for leading all inbound and outbound logistics activities within a chemical manufacturing environment, including oversight of Shipping, Receiving, and warehouse operations. This role drives continuous improvement in material flow, ensures full compliance with import/export regulations, and maintains rigorous standards for safe chemical handling and storage. A key focus is achieving exceptional customer satisfaction through on‑time, accurate, and damage‑free shipments while proactively mitigating operational and regulatory risks.

Responsibilities

Shipping, Receiving & Operational Excellence

  • Lead and supervise Shipping and Receiving teams, ensuring efficient daily operations.

  • Improve processes, workflows, and material movement to support consistent on‑time shipment performance.

  • Oversee inbound receipt of raw materials, intermediates, packaging, and supplies.

  • Manage outbound shipments of finished goods to domestic and international customers.

  • Ensure proper labeling, documentation, packaging, and handling of chemical materials.

  • Drive operational improvements that enhance accuracy, reduce delays, and elevate customer satisfaction.

Export & Trade Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with import/export regulations, trade controls, and customs requirements.

  • Maintain accurate and complete shipping documentation in alignment with regulatory standards.

  • Support audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews related to trade compliance.

  • Oversee proper product classification, country‑of‑origin documentation, and required recordkeeping.

  • Serve as a key resource for export compliance questions and continuous improvement.

Risk Mitigation & Material Safety

  • Ensure appropriate storage, segregation, and handling of chemical materials to minimize operational risk.

  • Partner with EHS and Quality to maintain compliance with DOT, IATA, IMDG, and other transportation regulations.

  • Implement safeguards to prevent material mix‑ups, contamination, or unsafe conditions.

  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and regulatory awareness across logistics operations.

Process Improvement & Material Flow Optimization

  • Streamline dock scheduling, staging, and internal transfers to support production efficiency.

  • Identify bottlenecks and implement continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cost and error rates.

  • Enhance inventory flow and accuracy through improved processes and cross‑functional coordination.

Customer Service & Delivery Performance

  • Ensure shipments meet customer delivery commitments for timing, completeness, and accuracy.

  • Serve as escalation point for shipment delays, discrepancies, or carrier issues.

  • Collaborate with Customer Service, Sales, and Planning to align logistics priorities and resolve issues.

  • Monitor logistics KPIs and drive improvements in service levels and reliability.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate inbound deliveries with Purchasing and supplier logistics.

  • Work with Operations and Production to align material availability with manufacturing schedules.

  • Partner with Quality and Safety teams to ensure compliance with chemical handling and storage requirements.

  • Collaborate with Finance on freight costs, claims, and inventory accuracy.

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field.

Experience

  • 5+ years of logistics or warehouse management experience in chemical or regulated manufacturing.

  • Experience managing shipping and receiving operations.

  • Hands‑on experience with import/export compliance and international shipping.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of chemical logistics, hazardous materials handling, and transportation regulations.

  • Knowledge of import/export compliance and customs processes.

  • Proven leadership and team management skills.

  • Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and communication abilities.

  • Experience with ERP/WMS systems and shipping software.
